Behold, a small sample of my weekend in Hanami Heaven!

Friday - Kyoto Gosho

This is the public park that surrounds the former Imperial Palace in Kyoto.

Left: Hi Mom!
Right: The map of the palace grounds.

Left: The former Imperial Throne with the Empress' seat to the right, almost out of view.
Right: Not the throne, just a seat to view the garden from.

This picture is for Dylan and my Dad who both wanted to know what these roofs are made of. The answer is Japanese cypress.

Right: Mannequins demonstrate the traditional court music known as Gagaku.

Nijo Castle

Walking from the bus stop towards the castle, we see that cherry blossoms can make any street beautiful.

This close-up didn't work as well as I had hoped...the camera seems to have focused on some rear blossoms instead of the ones in front.

Gion

Left: This sidestreet, renamed Miyako-o-dori was obviously decorated to attract attention. It worked!
Right: A lovely tree found on that same street.

I stand corrected: that's a maiko (apprentice) on the right, but that's a full-blown geisha on the left! w00t!

Even after dark the flowers are incredible. These were actually a little west of Gion along Shijo street.
