Here's Babe Ruth's plaque in the Hall of Fame Gallery. He was one of the five original members in the Hall of Fame. I'm a huge fan of Babe Ruth. I think he might be a reason why I love the Yankees, even though he died nearly thirty years before I was born.
Here's a uniform that the Babe wore. He has his own nook in the museum called "The Babe Ruth Room." Kazu was surprised when he saw the photos of the Babe, because Babe didn't look very athletic. I tried to explain the magnitude of Babe's performance and appeal. Supposedly there's a statue of the Babe in Japan. I guess Kazu never saw it.
This is a flyer for a 1934 All-Star tour of Japan. Babe Ruth is the star attraction, apparently. Japanese students, take note: all of the horizontal writing goes right to left, a trend that has since been reversed.
I'm standing in front of a photo of the Babe. His feet are not at ground level, so he's not as tall as he appears. Yes, I made that face on purpose, but no, I don't know why.
This was a sign made by a young fan for Ichiro. I love that it's hanging above his exhibit in the museum. It reads "(You) did it/Ichiro/Congratulations"
This is a special jersey issued to Hideki Matsui for the Yankees opening series of games in Japan this spring. You can see the controversial "Kinoh" advertisement on the left sleeve. Taku asked me who my favorite player on the Yankees is and I was tempted to say Matsui although I couldn't. I like the whole team, seriously. I can't pick a favorite.
This is the bat Matsui used last April to hit his first home run in the Major Leagues. It also happened to be his first game in Yankee Stadium and it was a grand slam. You can't see it in this picture but the bat is broken. I wasn't at the game but I was listening on the radio at the time, driving to class and eating a Wendy's sandwich. I got so excited I almost dropped it.
