Tortoise in the City

Let's just hope that "slow and steady" actually wins the race.

I haven't been up to much since I got to New York, but each day I try to accomplish something, however small. On Monday, I inquired at several stores about the logistics of selling unwanted media, got a hair cut, bought a new toothbrush and read through most of the material I've already received from the JET Programme. On Tuesday I filed some important paperwork relating to my former postal career (long, dull story). Today I actually sold a bunch of books, snagged the latest Chuck Palahniuk novel from the library and took a long look at my student loans, a somewhat unnerving experience. I have to admit that it's easy to forget that, by definition, student loans must be repaid. Considering my upcoming job is not an overwhelmingly high-paying one, it's going to take me a long time to take care of this.

I've already gone through this student-loan-payment process before, but that was a much smaller loan for only one year of school waaay back in 1995. Back then, I only paid $50 a month and it took me about five years. If I tried that today I'd still be paying when I turn 80 years old. I suspect they will insist on a slightly faster method of remittance.

This weekend is slowly shaping up to be fun. Plans are afoot!
