Nacho Party

A belated summary of the weekend.

My friends proposed an evening of fun at their home in Westchester, and I came up with a simple idea for an activity: making nachos. We always end up eating something when we hang out at their place and nachos seemed like a fun, simple food that would amuse everyone. The plan worked out wonderfully since the recipe is so basic it allowed for plenty of drinking before, during and after the cooking process.

On Saturday I thought I was going to return to the city but as time passed by it became apparent that another plan was unfolding. We went out for Indian food followed by the All-American spectacle of Rocky Balboa. Both activities exceeded my expectations; the food at Bengal Tiger was better than I remembered and Rocky was surprisingly heartfelt and pensive. I was especially impressed with the fact that Rocky's opponent in this film was a reasonable, if not arrogant, human being, a stark contrast to the over-the-top villains of past films. Don't get me wrong: IV was a blast and I always smile when it appears on television but Ivan Drago, as a character, was positively absurd.

By the time the movie was over I had a choice between catching the very last train back to New York or just hanging out for one more night. With the lateness of the hour and the promise of even more nachos, I surrendered myself for another evening. However, I went to bed really early because I had promised to chat with Mako on Sunday morning. Since we can't physically be together during these long stretches of time, connecting on-line goes a very long way to brightening both our spirits. Plus, there's something to be said for waking up early everyday; otherwise I might not get out of bed until lunchtime.

Cheers!

I forgot to call you! Sorry I missed the nacho fun. Hanging out this weekend to celebrate Dad's birthday?

Sure thing. And there were plenty of nachos for everyone.
