Trifecta

You probably heard earlier this week that Johnnie Cochran died, and if you own a TV or a radio you know that Terri Schiavo is dead. What you probably didn't know is that Mitch Hedberg died yesterday morning. He was a "young" comedian (37) who was actively on his way to greater fame. He had a kind of odd non-sequitur style (think Steven Wright), so he was right up my alley.

They say celebrities always die in threes. I'm not sure Terri really counts, but if the rumors are true the Pope may be the third. In any event, of all these people Mitch is the only one I'll miss.

R.I.P., sir.

The Murph Strikes Again

As I mentioned yesterday, I had to present my Japanese skit today. Since Spring Break last week eliminated any possible rehearsal time, my group and I met early this morning in the library to go over the script until we got it right. I got dressed up in a jacket and tie since we're supposed to be newscasters. As I got dressed this morning, I thought to myself, "Since it's a big class, we might not get to everyone's skit today. And since I'm dressing up for the skit, that (and Murphy's Law) guarantees we will not go today. That way, I'll have to wear this outfit two days in a row." That's exactly what happened as our class ended with our skit next in line. So I walked around campus all day today looking even more out-of-place than I normally do.

On the subject of needlessly complex tasks, I'm taking this antibiotic for a small infection that was irritating me. Turns out the cure is almost as irritating because I'm supposed to take two pills every six hours or four doses a day. Furthermore, the pills should be taken on an empty stomach which means no food two hours before or one hour afterwards. Factor in my silly habit of sleeping 7-8 hours a night and my day is suddenly very complicated.

Oh yeah, and still no word on my study abroad application. My head hurts...

Aggravated

I tried making another audio post on Sunday night but it is currently MIA. I don't get why this audioblogging thing suddenly doesn't work anymore. Is it a traffic issue? I guess I won't bother unless I really need to be heard.

I'm readjusting to my academic schedule. It's been a tricky two days. Yesterday it rained all day, lending an extra depressing edge to an already gloomy first-day-back-at-school. Today was a little nicer, not as cold as I feared either. I just may have seen my last snow for the season.

We finally had an Acting class today; thankfully, the professor is out of the hospital and feeling much better. Our schedule has been totally revised: the test on that student play I saw has been cancelled and the monologues are now considered "extra credit" if we choose to perform them. I'm not going to miss the test but I wish I could have my $8 back, not to mention the two hours I spent watching that thing. Not that it was terrible, of course, but I never would have seen it if my class hadn't required it. I may go for the extra credit on the monologue but I'm not sure how much I need it. After all, we haven't received a single grade all semester. I appreciate the professor's "I hate giving grades" philosophy, but the bottom line is we will be graded eventually and the more grades I get, the clearer an idea I have of where I stand academically.

Tomorrow I've got to perform a skit which I wrote in Japanese class. If you think it's hard to write a skit in another language, you're right. If you think it's even harder to memorize that skit and perform it with others without any real rehearsal, you're right again.
