One Last Ride

Before I came to New York City for Christmas break, I decided I wanted to go to the newly-reopened and renovated Museum of Modern Art. Since I'll be going back to Albany on Monday, I knew today would be my last opportunity to visit it, so I went. The MoMA is a short walk from my dad's apartment but today's nasty weather made it seem like a long one. Today was cold, wet, and windy to boot. It figures that I would encounter truly disgusting weather after a week of really nice weather in Florida. Anyway, I made it to the museum and got a pleasant surprise. As a SUNY student, I received free admission! Normally they charge $20 with a $12 price for "regular" students. In your face, Ivy Leaguers!

Visiting the MoMA used to make me question what "art" really is, since many of the exhibits there defy convention. I have since decided that everything can be considered "art" so I no longer have that dilemma, but I now wonder what criteria is used to select which pieces of art qualify for display in a museum. For example, there was one piece that was an entirely black painting on canvas, and another piece was an entirely blue painting on canvas. Sure, it's art, but is it really worthy of exhibition in a famous gallery?

After cruising through the MoMA I went downtown to get a haircut (finally) and one last serving of takoyaki & okonomiyaki. At some point I'll be heading up to my friend's house in Croton-on-Hudson where I'll hang out for the weekend before driving to Albany on Monday. My NYC experience ends here.

Feit...In!

I have returned to New York City from sunny Florida. Within an hour of returning from JFK, I made plans to meet my friend Mike at some club in Chelsea called "Snitch." I have no idea what may transpire there tonight. At first I thought it might be quiet considering it is a weeknight, but I remember a friend once told me that Thursday is now the "in" night to party. I was looking forward to watching Hey! Spring of Trivia tonight, but this is probably my last opportunity to see Mike before returning to school next week.

TV vs human contact and I'm choosing human contact? I don't know who I am anymore.

Relaxing Can Be Hard Work

Can you believe I've been sitting in the sun for almost a week now with barely any pigment to prove it? It seems that "working on one's tan" is an apt description of the process. I foolishly assumed that I could just sit there and my skin would simply color itself, but I was wrong. I suspect the main problem might be my sunscreen. Fearing a burn, I bought some SPF 45 lotion which has apparently shielded me completely from the sun's radiation. Keep in mind that when I sun myself I don't read or do anything besides sun myself, so all the time I spent out there I literally did nothing. It's a good thing I spent time with my mom and Mike or this vacation could be considered a waste.

I suppose I'm eager to return to the frosty rigors of New York and get back to school. Initially I needed the extra rest this trip brought me, but the last few days I've found myself waking up earlier and earlier. It seems that I can only take so much idleness and maximum relaxation apparently has a saturation point; proof that Florida is a lovely place to visit but I wouldn't want to live here.
