Believe it or Not...

I went outside today. I know, I know, I totally didn't have to but I did. Today is Fountain Day, an annual event here at UAlbany where they turn on the fountain for the first time this year (it is dormant during the bitter winter months). I debated going vs. not going because I've got so much unpleasantness on my mind lately but Kazu suggested I go outside so I could "get flesh." He probably meant "fresh."

The weather was quite nice today, very sunny and clear but not really hot at all. It took forever to navigate the poorly staffed and organized "registration" process on campus. Everyone was supposed to pre-register online and print out a ticket to bring to the registration table. Of course, many people didn't do this and held up the lines as a result. Further complicating matters was that no one (expect for me, the sucker) actually waited in line, people were hopping under ropes to catch up with their friends. And just for kicks, some moron split up the lines into oddly uneven groups. Which one of these is not like the others: A-C, D-I, J-L, M-O, P-R, S-U, V-Z? Which line do you think was the longest (by three times as much)? And which one do you know I was stuck in for twenty minutes?

Eventually I was admitted, registered and handed a pillow. We had a gigantic pillow fight which technically only lasted a few minutes but after it "ended" a lot of people kept swinging. I only took one to the head; most of the time we were just throwing the pillows at each other which doesn't really hurt at all. When it was all over there were actually giant pillow piles which some revelers took a rest in. Everyone slowly migrated into the fountain area. The fountain had been filled with water during the week although the actual sprays were not on yet. Lots of people were scrambling, dancing, humping, etc. in the water. Not being a fan of water (or Meningitis, I opted to quietly observe the horseplay rather than cast myself in. I took some pictures with Kazu's camera, so I'll upload them soon.

Much was made over this year's "fun and safe" Fountain Day, in contrast to past Fountain Days where drinking was heavy and it seems someone, somewhere got hurt. I hate to put it like this but I would have had a lot more "fun" if I had drank a few beers ahead of time. What's up with me craving booze lately? Am I in that foul a mood that I need liquor to regulate my mood?
