Remove the News-Tube
OK, I didn't want to bring it up because fucking everybody else is talking about it, but I've got to say something about the non-stop press coverage this Terri Schiavo thing is getting. Enough already! There was a goddamn press conference this afternoon between President Bush, President Fox of Mexico and Prime Minister Martin of Canada. Not only was Pres. Bush asked about this nonsense during the Q&A period, but FOX News even cut away before the conference was over to talk about "the latest news" concerning this matter. CNN at least waited until the conference ended before immediately cutting to some guy outside a federal court somewhere.
Am the only one outraged by this misuse of the airwaves? A North American "summit" is more important than the Schiavo matter. Frankly, I can think of hundreds of more important matters, and I'm not including that recent school shooting either. I'm talking about pressing national and international affairs that affect billions of people around the world.
Irregardless of my personal feelings concerning euthanasia or even abortion, this issue should not be a federal matter. It is between Terri's family members and her doctors. Why two-thirds of our government decided to involve themselves is beyond me. Thousands of people are dying every day, many of whom as a result of decisions our government has made. How can they justify bending over backwards to save this one person, possibly against her wishes?
