The Dichotomy of Desire

We've all know what this is. There's something out there that you want really badly but for whatever reason you can't have it. So you find yourself hating it and everyone else who has one. You have a lot of reasons why, but let's face it, the biggest reason you hate it is because you don't have one.

For me, the object in question is a cell phone. I want one really, really, really badly. It would pop open like the ones they had in The Matrix. It would have to be a picture phone so I can go around moblogging when I'm not chatting it up in other people's faces. I'd use the hands-free headset sometimes so I can walk around talking to myself, confusing strangers and sales clerks alike. My conversations would always be as banal as possible, even when I slip into Japanese to show off for others. It'll have a loud and obnoxious ring tone too, just so everyone knows that it's my phone that's ringing and not theirs. Of course, that means I would never pick it up right away so that everyone can hear the whole sound that I carefully selected to represent me, aurally-speaking.

Why don't I buy one already? Two important reasons. The first is that the cost is far too high when contrasted with my needs. To get a hot-ass phone like the one in my dreams it would cost hundreds of dollars plus a long-term contract at $30-40 a month. The second, more depressing reason is that I don't need a cell phone at all because no one ever calls. If I get one phone call during the course of a weekend I'm ecstatic.

Feedback:
They make working models of the phones used in the Matrix Reloaded. They pop open and make the click sound and everything. The phones from the first movie were dead props.

I don't have a cell phone either but for another reason. I don't like everyone knowing where I am.

Matrix Reloaded? I'm trying to forget that film, thanks.
