Told You So
Earlier this month, I told you about a Nintendo cover band called The Minibosses. Hopefully, you heeded my call and realized that this wave of music is cool. Apparently the New York Times heard me, as they've published a story about another Nintendo cover band, The Advantage. If you're registered, you can read all about it here, although this link will expire in a week regardless. These guys aren't my favorite, but that's not the point. The point is video game cover music is now "Fit to Print," as the saying goes.

Celebrity Sighting at The Rock
No, not that Rock, I'm talking about the Rock. Rocky's Deli, in Millwood! The 24-hour, anything-you-want-anytime deli! I ran in after class tonight and encounted a local celebrity with her kids. Naturally, her husband is out of town on business. I played it cool, of course. Hassling celebrities is for herbs.

Crazy 88 - the game
Now you too can kill the Crazy 88s! If you enjoyed Kill Bill Vol. 1, then check this out. You control "The Bride" in the House of Blue Leaves, and you must kill 88 mad swordsmen. Just like the movie, only the movie didn't really have 88 guys in it. Why did they call themselves Crazy 88? Because it sounded cool.

Kill is Love
First, I must apologize to my visitors...both of you. I haven't posted in a long time. That's because I've been very busy this week with work and school. But I made time on Friday night to watch Kill Bill Vol. 2, which I have hungered for ever since Vol. 1 hit last fall. Well, Vol. 2 is a very different movie. For one, it's a lot longer, around 2 and a half hours. More significantly, the pace is completely different. There's no splatterfest here; this time, it's personal!
What important here is that I loved the film. I'm fascinated by how this movie might have looked if it was released as one four-hour blockbuster. As it stands now, the two movies are so separate and different, I can't picture them as one, even though they're supposed to be two halves of one continuous story! Hopefully, the super-secret-platinum-collector's edition DVD will come out someday and I can enjoy QT's vision as he intended. In the meantime, I am not buying each volume on DVD. Screw Miramax and all their bullshit.

Seder-rama
Well, boys and girls, it's Passover. Those of you who know me know I don't pay much attention to these sorts of things, but I'm always up for a dinner with old friends. I'm reminded of a dialogue exchange from the movie Clerks:
[Dante]: But you hate people!
[Randall]: Yet I love gatherings. Isn't it ironic?
(i'm paraphrasing)....but anyway, I went to a seder Monday night with my (local) family to visit some folks I haven't seen in well over a decade. It was great to see them again after so long, but it was easily the strangest seder I've ever been to. They had found a more modern version of the haggadah, which is a book you read at the table and use to conduct the "ceremonies," so to speak. You can follow the link and read for yourself, as this new version contained some bizarre prayers regarding holidays with pay, an end to sweatshops, and the tradtional Ten Plagues had been replaced by social concerns such as domestic violence and illiteracy. Call me a cynic, but how do you abandon "death of the first born" to shed a tear for kids who can't read?
But seriously, dinner was wonderful. I was particularly impressed by the unconventional chocolate "cake" we had for dessert. Long story short, no flour or yeast was used, as that would violate the rules of Passover. And my dad was delighted because one of the guests asked if we "were brothers or something."
Damn his youthful charm.

The Rock
No, not "The Rock", I'm talking about the Rock. As in Rock & Roll. Last night I had the pleasure of seeing The Minibosses live at Brooklyn's Northsix. In theory they were an opening act for some other band, but I was there to see the 'bosses. In between songs everyone in the crowd was shouting out requests. I doubt I'll ever be in another bar in my lifetime where drunken patrons shout out "METROID!!" or "CASTLEVANIA 3!!!!" Hilarious! And it was a great show, if not a little short. I guess when you open you can only perform so much material. They were actually the second of three bands to perform that night, the first was Rye Coalition and they rocked pretty goddamn hard.
Afterwards I hooked up with my good friend Mike for a little more beer and The Ring (2002), which isn't quite as good as the original Japanese film but it is an easy watch. I spent the night on a couch and wound up with quite a headache the next day, which is today.
I hooked up with my father and sister for a bizarre outing in Brooklyn this afternoon. We sought out a few high quality cheesecake sites according to a recent article in the New York Times. Of the three we tried, one was closed and one had no seats, so we took the cake to go. But we did stop at one place that had seats. It was a bakery/cafe in an odd spot, very close to a major highway (BQE maybe? I didn't know). It was good, no doubt, but I still feel that Carnegie Deli's cheescake is the best. Check out their ghetto-ass website! I was making sites like that in my spare time ten years ago. You'd think at $12+ a sandwich they could afford to hire a professional web designer.

More Progress
New Links Added. I will eventually make a separate page, or even pages, of links. But for now the really important ones are there.
Also added a sweet little contact link. No, it's not a routine "mailto" command, it's got style. Thanks to Leo Laporte for the tip.

The End
No, not The End of Feitclub. We've only just begun!
I have added a counter to the sidebar. It's counting down to...how shall I put this...the end. Of what I dare not say.
If anyone knows how to change the color of the digits, please let me know.
