Learning nothing from the Joe Camel debacle, some Japanese folks have taken it upon themselves to make mascots for various cigarette brands. The page is in Japanese, of course, so many of the brand names will be unfamiliar (and unintelligible) to some, but just click down the list of links on the left and you'll see what I mean. Make sure to check out Marlboro, which is the first item underneath "Philip Morris." The first picture is way more hardcore than any cowboy.
