A Hero Indeed
I was so happy to hear that Hero, the awesome Chinese movie that MiramAXE bought and sat on for over two years made a big impact on this weekend's box office. After letting it get dusty, toying with dubbing and editing, all the while threatening to sue anyone who was willing to sell the import DVD, MiramAXE finally released it without fucking it up. And look what happened! The people responded and paid good money to see it. Let's hope this teaches those guys that every Chinese movie doesn't need "Kung Fu Fighting" in the trailer to draw a crowd.
If you haven't seen Hero, see it. It's a thousand times better than that piece of crap Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

Dear Dr. Professor,
First off, Crouching Tiger was a good movie... so you need to check yourself. I recall you setting expectations at maximum capacity, possibly leading to the MELTdown. The sound in that movie theatre was crap. People forget that sound makes everything on the screen brighter, sharper and bigger.
Secondly, toss me a bone Dr. Professor. What has happened since you got to school and if today is indeed the kick off, tell me how it was received?
Yours truly,
Jarles Brolin

I did have high expectations, yes. But that doesn't change the fact that the movie was a wussy love story masquerading as a martial arts epic. I remember the sound being poor, but I remember the music being worse. Cello solos? Action needs percussion, my friend. You're a musician, you know that.

If the sound was louder you may have noticed the heavy taiko-like drums and wooden stick hits that punctuated the fight scenes.
Admittedly this was a subtle love story with action scenes. I think expectation of the reverse would lead one to call it wussy. When for a love story, it had a serious bite to it.
Now answer the real questions at hand. What is happening up there?
