The Rock
No, not "The Rock", I'm talking about the Rock. As in Rock & Roll. Last night I had the pleasure of seeing The Minibosses live at Brooklyn's Northsix. In theory they were an opening act for some other band, but I was there to see the 'bosses. In between songs everyone in the crowd was shouting out requests. I doubt I'll ever be in another bar in my lifetime where drunken patrons shout out "METROID!!" or "CASTLEVANIA 3!!!!" Hilarious! And it was a great show, if not a little short. I guess when you open you can only perform so much material. They were actually the second of three bands to perform that night, the first was Rye Coalition and they rocked pretty goddamn hard.
Afterwards I hooked up with my good friend Mike for a little more beer and The Ring (2002), which isn't quite as good as the original Japanese film but it is an easy watch. I spent the night on a couch and wound up with quite a headache the next day, which is today.
I hooked up with my father and sister for a bizarre outing in Brooklyn this afternoon. We sought out a few high quality cheesecake sites according to a recent article in the New York Times. Of the three we tried, one was closed and one had no seats, so we took the cake to go. But we did stop at one place that had seats. It was a bakery/cafe in an odd spot, very close to a major highway (BQE maybe? I didn't know). It was good, no doubt, but I still feel that Carnegie Deli's cheescake is the best. Check out their ghetto-ass website! I was making sites like that in my spare time ten years ago. You'd think at $12+ a sandwich they could afford to hire a professional web designer.
